Moving RealData files between Windows and Macintosh

You wish to open your RealData software on both a Windows and a Mac computer.

First be aware that the Windows and Mac releases of our are not completely compatible, due to differences in the VBA macro code. That’s why we have separate releases for each environment. If you try to take a Windows REIA workbook and open it under the Mac, you will get error messages.  The calculations and the reports are the same, but some of the code behind the scenes needs to be different.

How-to:  Use the Import feature in the RealData menu which is available in REIA Professional and our Personal Financial Statment (PFS) products only. See this article on how to move data from one file to another in REIA Pro.  The process is the same in our PFS program.  For our other programs, there is no easy way to move between Windows and Mac short of copying your data from your Windows file to Mac or vice versa.

One Option – Consider installing Windows or Mac virtual environment on one of the computers and stick exclusively to either the Windows or the Mac releases. Look to VMWare Fusion or Parallels commercial virtualization products. There is also an open-source product called VirtualBox.
